Can eating goose eggs prevent neonatal jaundice?

Patient's question:

In about two more months, I will be giving birth. I heard that it's very common for newborns to develop jaundice after birth. So, my family bought some goose eggs for me to eat. Can eating goose eggs prevent newborn jaundice?

Doctor's answer:

Neonatal jaundice refers to the condition during the neonatal period where abnormal bilirubin metabolism leads to elevated levels of bilirubin in the blood. The occurrence of yellowing of the skin, mucous membranes, and sclera is the most common clinical issue in newborns. This condition can be divided into two major categories: physiological and pathological. Physiological jaundice generally does not require special treatment. Pathological jaundice, however, requires blue light therapy to alleviate the jaundice. Eating goose eggs during pregnancy cannot prevent neonatal jaundice.
