Features: A new friend Amélie finds the kindergarten terribly boring today. She walks outside, perhaps there will be something fun there. Alas, nothing interesting. Two little boys are playing in the sandbox, digging sand. They are too young for Amélie. She sits on the edge of the sandbox and sees her good friend Lanna over there by the fence. She really wants to play with Lanna, but Sophie is faster than her. Amélie hasn’t even spoken to Sophie yet—she’s the new one. Now Sophie and Lanna are sitting on the grass, talking and laughing. Amélie looks at Lanna; she’s such a nice girl, everyone likes her. Lanna is her good friend! She’s been wanting to ask Lanna for a long time, to see if she’d like to come to her house to play. But lately, Lanna has been playing with Sophie instead of her! Sophie runs inside, takes a piece of cake, and comes back. She holds the cake out to Lanna, who takes a bite, then Sophie takes a bite, and then it’s Lanna’s turn again. Amélie is furious; she really wants to snatch the cake from Sophie’s hands. She used to share cake with Lanna like this all the time, but now Lanna is actually eating cake with Sophie! P11
