Features: The Palomar was published by Einaudi in November 1983. This preface text has not been edited and published for many years. Its first publication was in "The Second Meridian" in Novelle e racconti (Milan: Mondadori, 1992, pp. 1402–1405). It was prepared by Calvino in May 1983 as a response to a survey by The New York Times Book Review about what writers around the world were working on at that time; however, in the issue of the American newspaper on June 12, 1983, only a few lines about The Palomar were published.
