Xi Murong is a Mongolian, born in Chongqing, Sichuan in 1943, with aristocratic ancestry from the Ming’an Banner of the Chahar League. She graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Taiwan Normal University and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, Belgium. She is a renowned painter in Taiwan, as well as a celebrated essayist and poet. Her works include poetry collections such as Aroma of the Seven Miles, Youth Without Regrets, and Nine Poems of Time, and prose collections like A Song, Poetry in the Land, as well as art theory works such as Exploring the Soul and On the Theory of Thunder and Color Art. Her works are imbued with ancient Eastern philosophy, carry a religious tone, and reveal a sense of the melancholic beauty of impermanence in life.
