Features: This book is divided into two parts. The first part includes Chapters 1 and 2, which theoretically elaborate on property rights, transaction costs, and the selection of various agricultural land contracts. First, a model of property rights and transaction costs is presented. When transaction costs are zero, property rights can be fully defined, and thus all types of agricultural land contracts have the same economic efficiency. When transaction costs are not zero, under different conditions, the costs of defining property rights vary, and the constraints differ, leading to different choices of agricultural land contracts. The second part includes Chapters 3, 4, and 5, which, starting from the actual situation in China, explore the fundamental reasons for the failure of the collective farming system, demonstrate the economic efficiency and contract selection under the household contract system, and study the choice and development direction of agricultural technology in China. These two parts are closely integrated in theory and practice, forming an organic whole. This book examines how to improve agricultural land systems and economic organizations, which is an important aspect of enhancing agricultural economic efficiency and a key topic in addressing the "three rural" issues.
The book is divided into two parts: The first part presents a model of property rights and transaction costs and concludes that when transaction costs are zero, property rights can be fully defined, and thus all types of agricultural land contracts are equally efficient; when transaction costs are not zero, under different constraints, the costs of defining property rights vary, and the chosen agricultural land contracts differ. The second part discusses the relationship between property rights and transaction costs within and between agricultural economic organizations in rural China from 1949 to 1999, and the choice and development direction of agricultural land systems and technology under the constraints of factor endowments or relative prices.
The first part includes the content of Chapters 1 and 2. The second part includes Chapters 3 to 5, which, within the theoretical framework of the first part, argue the economic efficiency of agricultural land systems and agricultural economic organizations in China from 1949 to 1999 and the issues of contract selection.
