The initial jurisdiction of the Southeast Bureau included the Party work in Jiangxi, Zhejiang provinces, as well as parts of Fujian, Anhui, Hubei, Hunan, and Guangdong provinces. In November 1938, the Sixth Plenary Session of the Sixth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to transform the original Southeast Bureau of the Central Committee into the Southeast Bureau of the Central Committee in the southeastern region south of the Yangtze River, with the same composition of personnel and affiliated organizations (formally implemented between March and April 1939). In December 1940, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to merge the Southeast Bureau into the Central Plains Bureau. After the Anhui Incident in January 1941, the work of the Southeast Bureau was forced to stop. In April, the Southeast Bureau and the Central Plains Bureau were merged to form the Central China Bureau. At this point, the Southeast Bureau officially ceased its operations.
The book The Southeast Bureau of the Central Committee is divided into photographs, overviews, memoirs, special topics, biographies of figures, chronicles of major events, and documentary materials, totaling nearly 800,000 words, and is published in two volumes. During the compilation process, the research achievements of the Party history and military history circles on the Southeast Bureau and the New Fourth Army were incorporated, and suggestions and opinions from relevant experts and scholars were heard to improve the content of certain sections of the manuscript.
