Features: The reform of the mechanical design curriculum system is an important part of the "Teaching Content and Curriculum System Reform Plan for the 21st Century" being implemented by the State Education Commission. The overall goal of the reform is to cultivate students' comprehensive design capabilities. As a core technical foundation course for students majoring in mechanical engineering, the "Principles of Machinery" course, when viewed from the perspective of the reform's overall goal, reveals that most existing textbooks on the subject focus on knowledge and intelligence systems centered around mechanism analysis. This system is increasingly unable to meet the demands of technological advancement and talent cultivation. Therefore, this new edition of "Principles of Machinery" establishes a new system with "design as the main focus, analysis serving design, and the ultimate goal being the design of mechanical overall solutions." The book is divided into three parts: the Upper Part, "Kinematic Design of Mechanisms," primarily introduces the principles of mechanism composition, various types of mechanisms, their motion characteristics, functions, and design methods; the Middle Part, "Dynamic Design of Machinery," mainly covers several dynamic issues during mechanism operation and methods to improve mechanical dynamic performance through rational design; the Lower Part, "Overall Solution Design of Machinery," focuses on the design philosophy, content, process, and methods of mechanical overall solution design. Through this new system, the aim is to equip students with preliminary capabilities in designing mechanical overall solutions. In terms of content selection and arrangement, the author, based on years of teaching experience, strives to balance the following relationships: the relationship between being concise and selective versus being comprehensive and inclusive; the relationship between advanced content and traditional content; and the relationship between systematicity and engagement. The author has also written "Mechanical Principles: A Companion to the Textbook" as a supplementary resource for this book. This book can serve as a teaching textbook for mechanical engineering majors in higher industrial institutions and also as a reference for non-mechanical students and related engineering and technical personnel.
