Features: The May Fourth Movement is regarded as "China's Renaissance" and also the beginning of the New Democratic Revolution. The spirit of patriotism, democracy, and science it advocated has had a profound and far-reaching impact. Especially in the field of thought and culture, the May Fourth Movement ushered in a new historical period and triggered a great philosophical revolution, which was particularly evident in the philosophy of history. Therefore, to better promote the spirit of May Fourth, it is essential not to overlook the state of philosophical thought during this period. Regarding the philosophy of history, research by domestic and international scholars has either reconstructed theoretical systems or been largely limited to the period before May Fourth. The exploration of the historical philosophy of Marxists during the May Fourth era has rarely been addressed. Thus, this book attempts to reflect on the May Fourth New Culture Movement from the perspective of the development of modern Chinese philosophy of history, filling the gap in academic research on the famous figures of modern Chinese history, particularly the early leaders of the Communist Party of China, in terms of their philosophical thought. Additionally, the term "modern Chinese" used in this book refers to the historical period from the Opium War in the late Qing Dynasty to the founding of the People's Republic of China, spanning approximately 100 years. The period before this is considered "ancient," while the period after can be referred to as "contemporary" or "modern and contemporary."
