Features: In China, the history of women consciously engaging in literary creation and using their works as part of social and cultural circulation is relatively brief. Although there have been outstanding female writers like Zhu Zuxun, Ban Jiehou, Cai Wenji, and Li Qingzhao in history, and although the late Qing revolutionary Qiu Jin had already infused a strong sense of female consciousness into her works, becoming a pioneer in the transition from ancient to modern female writing, it was during the May Fourth period, a time of fierce intellectual ferment, that female writers emerged as a collective. In this movement, which is often referred to as the Chinese Renaissance, a dazzling array of talented female writers appeared.
