Publish Date: 2006-03-01
Features: Comprehensive and rich in content. Historiography is a discipline heavily reliant on sources. A rigorous historian pays great attention to the collection, excavation, and utilization of historical materials. The book cites over 200 references, which can be broadly categorized into several groups: First, archival materials published by the Shaanxi Provincial Archives under the Central Archives and periodicals published in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region (including unpublished materials). From the book's content and cited sources, it appears the author has thoroughly studied these core materials. Second, collections, anthologies, and memoirs of key figures, as well as materials compiled by various departments, such as historical records, local chronicles, and thematic compilations. Third, existing research achievements in academia. The collection and utilization of these materials demonstrate the author's solid foundation in historical research. As a result, the book constructs a new framework for Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region history studies. The research in this book reflects the principles of pragmatism and specific analysis. For example, the author argues that the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region during the War of Resistance was a special local government under the administration of the National Government's Executive Yuan, but it wasing a new national prototype, giving the Border Region Bank the nature of a national bank and the Border Region tax the nature of national taxation. Another example is the study on the integration of agricultural labor resources in the Border Region, where the author sharply points out that the administrative commandism and dogmatism that emerged in post-liberation economic construction due to the desire for rapid success had already shown signs in the Border Region period.
