Features: That summer in Tokyo, I suddenly realized: I should learn from Zhou Shuren. He never dreamed of becoming the voice of the nation, and I also decided to eliminate the intention of speaking for the grievances of women. Zhou Shuren suddenly burst forth at nearly forty, becoming someone he himself had never expected to become: I gradually became calm and content with the flow of life at forty, trying to imitate the Zhou Shuren of that time—I finally dared to be a failure. —Hongying
After Hongying settled on a small island in Britain, she retreated to the countryside and found writing to be a wonderful companion. Often, a red fox would visit her garden with its family. Having such readers was a great fortune, so one day, Hongying mustered the courage to invite it to read her work and even offered corrections. The red fox quickly scanned her words with its eyes, nodding gravely as if it had already calculated her simple fate, her past, and her future. Each of her novels constructs a different realm of life, with clear paragraphs but also intertwined and mutually influential. Every time a novel is born, it feels like completing a life journey. Without Hongying—the Hongying who is merely a body, her soul is a composite of her protagonists. In other words, writing a new character is also a rebirth for her.
