Features: "The Life of Beethoven," "The Life of Michelangelo," and "The Life of Tolstoy" were all written by Roman Rolland. The three biographies feature one musician, one sculptor (sculptor and painter), and one novelist, each with their own domain. All three biographies focus on the great geniuses who, in the face of life's hardships and tribulations, dedicated their lives to seeking truth and justice, creating immortal works that express truth, goodness, and beauty. They were tormented by illness, plagued by tragic circumstances, or consumed by inner confusion, with their profound suffering almost suffocating them and destroying their reason. Yet, they persevered through their arduous journeys, all thanks to their love for humanity and their faith in humanity. The music that Beethoven shared with the world was "joy purchased with suffering." The immortal masterpieces left by Michelangelo for posterity were the culmination of a life filled with blood and tears. Tolstoy, in his novels, described the greatness and smallness of countless beings, their suffering, and the harmony found within it, thereby sowing the seeds of love. Roman Rolland referred to these three great geniuses as "heroes." By "hero," he did not mean the kind of hero typically celebrated—those who, driven by arrogance or personal ambition, could inflict immense harm upon humanity. The heroes Rolland spoke of were merely "loyal servants of humanity," great not just because of their noble character but because they devoted themselves wholeheartedly to serving the public.
