The modern Chinese academia, which began around 1990, absorbed new concepts popular at the time and initiated exchanges and dialogues between Chinese and Western academia. It also collects some of his academic essays such as On the Manifest Truth and Delusion of Han Confucianism and On Scholarship (Part 1 and Part 2). "Mr. Qian, with his profound scholarship and esteemed reputation, possesses a powerful and majestic literary style, with an air of grandeur and elegance. His works are classical, robust, and lucid in both matter and principle. His learning blends the classics and history, spanning the Hundred Schools of Thought, making him a true scholar of the world." (—Chen Pingyuan) The essays included in this book are clear proof of this. Qian Jibo (1887–1957), styled Ziquan and known as Qianlú, was a native of Wuxi, Jiangsu, and one of China's outstanding educators and classical scholars in modern times. Qian Jibo's academic pursuits covered a vast range, and he was particularly renowned for his expertise in the study of the Ji (Collected Works) category, earning the reputation of being "rarely matched in the world in the study of the Ji." His major academic works include A Biography of Han Yu, A Reading of Han Yu's Works, Literature of the Ming Dynasty, Essentials of National Studies, and Comprehensive Treatise on Confucian Studies, among others. Especially noteworthy are his History of Chinese Literature and A History of Modern Chinese Literature, both of which are grand in scale. These two works were based on his thorough reading of ancient and modern collections, analyzing the origins and developments, and presenting his own unique perspectives.
