(1) This dictionary is primarily intended for language workers engaged in Dai language translation, teaching, and scientific research. It can also be used by Han or other ethnic cadres working in Dai ethnic areas to learn Dai language, as well as by Dai ethnic people to learn Chinese.
(2) The Chinese entries in this dictionary are arranged based on the phonetic system of the Hanyu Pinyin scheme, including 32,654 entries such as characters, words, phrases, and idioms.
(3) Single-character entries are arranged in alphabetical order of Pinyin letters. For multiple-character entries listed under a single-character entry, if there are more than one, they are arranged in order of the second character's Pinyin letter. If the second character is the same, the third character is used for ordering, and so on.
(4) This dictionary provides Pinyin annotations for Mandarin pronunciations under both single-character and multiple-character entries in Chinese, with all multiple-character entries written as a continuous string.
(5) The Chinese characters in this dictionary follow the current standard forms. When necessary, variant characters or traditional characters are listed in parentheses “()” after the standard forms.
(6) Common and easily understandable Chinese words are translated into Dai, without examples. For words that are difficult to grasp or prone to misinterpretation of their part of speech, which may lead to usage errors, appropriate examples are provided. For words that cannot be translated into a single Dai term, explanations are given as needed.
(7) For a single-character entry with multiple Dai translations, meanings that are the same or similar are separated by a semicolon “;”, while different meanings are separated by numbers “①, ②, ③, ④”.
(8) If examples are needed after an explanation, the explanation and example sentences are separated by a colon “:”. In both Chinese and Dai examples, the code “~” is used to represent the entry in question.
