Dear students,
Welcome to the use of the Junior High School English Synchronous Evaluation Handbook! This handbook is designed and compiled to help you assess your English learning progress. Here, "evaluation" refers to making a proper estimation of your learning situation for each module in the textbook by completing the various "activities," "tasks," or "exercises" in the handbook. It helps you identify which aspects you have completed well and which still need improvement, and encourages you to think about how to address these issues.
This evaluation handbook differs from the traditional classroom exercise books or unit tests you may be familiar with. Before using this handbook, there are a few important points to keep in mind:
1. Module Goals: Before each module's evaluation tasks, there are "module goals" set to help you understand the main objectives of each module. Before starting, take a moment to see how much you can do and how well you can do it—in short, have a clear idea.
2. Learning a Language for Practical Use: You should recognize that learning a language is primarily about using it to accomplish tasks. Introducing yourself or your family in English, talking about school or friends, writing a greeting card or sending an email—all of these are real-world tasks. The purpose of learning English is to see whether you can complete these tasks using the language.
3. Learning and Doing Are Interconnected: To complete these tasks, you first need to master the language. Learning a language and doing things cannot be completely separated. The best way to learn a language is to have a clear purpose—learning "for use." The key is to "learn by doing," and to "apply what you learn as you go," ultimately achieving the goal of "learning to use."
4. Active Participation: Many of the exercises and activities in this handbook require you to actively participate—writing and speaking—rather than just ticking boxes or circling words. This reflects the principle of "learning by doing." Laziness will not lead to true mastery.
5. Self-Evaluation and Reflection: While completing the activities and tasks in the handbook, you should be aware of your own performance and quality. We have designed an evaluation section after each task to help you learn to evaluate yourself correctly and engage in self-reflection. You should recognize your achievements, identify your shortcomings, and understand the root causes of your problems. You can write your learning insights or any issues you encounter in the "Learning Log" section. It records your "growth journey" and serves as a window to understand yourself better.
Dear students, we hope you use this handbook with a relaxed and enjoyable mindset. We hope you become—knowing what to do, how to do it, and how well you are doing it. With determination, success will follow.
Wishing you all the best!
