5. Your fate is in the hands of the heavens. When opportunity comes, it is the time to showcase yourself, and eloquence will give you an edge. Nowadays, interviews are included in almost all competitive job recruitments. The content of an interview is very broad, but in the end, eloquence is most important. A proper and refined conversation not only reflects a person's inner thoughts but also compensates for their shortcomings, helping them stand out among the crowd. At times, the success of an interview can determine a person's life, becoming a turning point in their career success. Many people have defeated their rivals with outstanding interview performances, transforming from unknown ordinary individuals into well-known successful figures.
Today's society is a competitive and business-oriented one. Don't try to define or judge its merits or flaws—just quickly immerse yourself and adapt to it. A young student shared his personal experience: As a student, I hated answering questions in class, and I found that many of my classmates felt the same way. Every time the professor asked a question, we would instinctively lower our heads, afraid of being called on. During one foreign language class, an expert from a commercial bank gave a lecture. Speakers always hope to have an audience to interact with, so he asked how many economics students were in the room, but no one responded. I knew that many of us, including myself, were economics majors, but out of fear of being called on, we all remained silent. The expert gave a wry smile and said, "Let me pause for a moment and tell you a story."
"When I first studied in the U.S., there were often lectures at the university, and they were always given by senior executives from Wall Street or multinational companies. Before each lecture began, I noticed an interesting phenomenon: my classmates would take a piece of cardboard, fold it in the middle, write their names in very noticeable colors on it, and place it on their seats. This way, when the speaker needed a response, they could simply look at the names.
"I didn’t understand it, so I asked the student in front of me. He smiled and told me that the speakers were top-tier individuals, and they represented opportunities. If your answer satisfied or surprised them, it might suggest that they would offer you more opportunities. It’s a simple principle."
"And so it is. I have indeed seen several classmates around me get jobs at top companies because of their outstanding insights. This had a great impact on me. Opportunities don’t just come to you; you must constantly and prominently highlight yourself to attract attention and find opportunities. I’ve noticed that Chinese students are quite unsatisfactory in this regard—they are too reserved or timid and don’t like to let others see them. Perhaps this makes life easier, but you will never achieve greater success. I believe each of you has lofty ambitions, but your first step must be to find someone who recognizes you. This is very difficult for those who remain silent."
After he finished speaking, some people laughed, while others dismissed it. But I clearly saw more classmates raising their hands or giving subtle signals: I can answer.
We are all finite beings, just a tiny grain in the vast sea of humanity. There are many things we cannot control. We cannot choose our birth, our country, our environment, our leaders, or our colleagues. We don’t know when or where someone will support or hinder us, but there is one thing we can control: our attitude toward life. We can continuously strive to improve ourselves.
Therefore, all we can do is this—enough is enough! No matter how many ways you talk about the path to success, the most fundamental thing is this: no one can replace you or save you except yourself. Similarly, no one can defeat or overcome you except yourself.
