19 How to Support Treatment for Gastric Neurosis
Unless the patient's condition is very poor, bed rest is not necessary. They can participate in moderate labor and work. Maintain a regular lifestyle and engage in appropriate cultural and recreational activities. The diet should consist of low-fiber, easily digestible foods, avoiding stimulating foods and strong seasonings. Patients with neurotic anorexia require hospital treatment and gradual development of normal eating habits.
20 How to Treat Gastric Neurosis with Medication
Regulate nerve function and improve sleep. Depending on the condition, the following medications and methods can be selected.
◇ Sedatives: Drugs such as diazepam, chlorpromazine, phenobarbital, or oryzanol can be administered.
◇ Spasm Relief and Pain Relief: Anticholinergic drugs can relax smooth muscles, providing spasm relief and pain relief, such as belladonna preparations or atropine.
◇ Neurotic Vomiting: Vitamin B6 (10–20 mg) can be taken three times daily. In severe cases, drugs like promethazine, diphenhydramine, or metoclopramide may be used.
◇ Intestinal Neurosis: Constipation can be treated with lubricants such as liquid paraffin, magnesium sulfate, or antarax. Diarrhea can be managed with compound diphenoxylate (1–2 tablets, 2–3 times daily) or imodium (1 tablet, 2–3 times daily).
21 How to Self-Massage for Gastric Neurosis
Self-massage can adjust gastrointestinal nerve function, alleviate symptoms, and improve digestion. The following two self-massage methods should be performed 1–2 times daily. After 24 days of continuous treatment, the frequency can be reduced to once every other day until symptoms disappear. The procedures are as follows:
◇ Abdominal Massage: The patient lies on their back with knees bent. Place both palms on the abdomen, centered around the navel, and massage in a clockwise direction on the middle and lower abdomen for about 5 minutes until a warm sensation is felt. Start with light pressure and gradually increase it. Then, expand the range to massage the entire abdomen for about 2 minutes.
◇ Lumbar and Coccyx Rub: The patient sits with their waist bent forward. Clench the fingers of both hands and press the palms firmly against the waist, rubbing them toward the coccyx. Repeat this motion continuously for about 1 minute until the skin feels slightly warm.
22 What is Helicobacter pylori (HP)?
Helicobacter pylori is a gram-negative spiral bacterium with flagella, which can move helically through the gastric mucosa. It secretes an enzyme that converts urea into alkaline ammonia to neutralize stomach acid, allowing it to survive in highly acidic environments. It also secretes various digestive enzymes that damage the epithelial cells of the gastric mucosa, causing gastritis. Recent studies have proven that Helicobacter pylori is the main cause of many chronic upper gastrointestinal diseases. P8-9
