Features: Established in 1886, the German Walther company has produced a series of hammer-fired pistols over its more than 100-year history. Due to the many unavoidable shortcomings of hammer-fired pistols, such as exposed hammers and the ease with which external debris can enter the mechanism, leading to malfunctions; and the risk of accidental discharge when cocking the hammer, Walther company began researching the P99 pistol in 1996, which adopts an improved Browning locking system. It is a milestone in Walther's product line. The P99 pistol features a meticulously designed exterior. The metal components of the P99 pistol are treated with special Tenifer or chrome plating, enhancing their surface hardness and wear resistance. What stands out is that the P99 pistol uses a polymer frame, made from a 12-polymer molded with fiberglass reinforcement. It is not only easy to manufacture but also cost-effective, with high strength, good elasticity, high toughness, precise dimensions, non-deformable, corrosion-resistant, wear-resistant, and resistant to chemical reactions. It is lightweight and far superior to traditional metal frames in many aspects. Additionally, its belt loop is integrated, with a slot in the lower rear of the grip where a fixed pin can be inserted to serve as a belt loop. The barrel axis is located approximately 24 millimeters above the shooter's thumb, improving balance and reducing barrel movement, making the pistol easy to control even during continuous firing.
Innovative Internal Structure
Like its exterior design, the P99's internal structure also features numerous innovations. The barrel is locked into the ejection port, with the barrel and slide interlocking in an octagonal (trapezoidal) shape, halved evenly. Furthermore, the locking between the barrel and slide, similar to the familiar SIG Sauer pistol, is achieved through the positive engagement of the barrel's chamber portion with the front of the ejection port. When firing, the barrel and slide move rearward together until the locking lug in the frame engages a sloped groove in the lower part of the barrel, causing the barrel to lower and separate from the continuing rearward slide. The barrel is internally polished and engraved with six right-hand rifling grooves. Below the barrel is the recoil spring, made of flat metal, with a rational structure that saves energy. P26-27
