A 17-year-old member of the Fujian Provincial Invention Association with 3 patents, she has her own inventions and patents, a dream many adults have, yet Chen Lu, a high school student of only 17, already possesses 3 national patents and joined the Fujian Provincial Invention Association in July 2003 (Member No.: 8—010). Chen Lu's patents, including the "Fitness Flashlight" (ZL01254789.1), "Six-Function Electric Razor" (ZL01266651.3), and "Multi-Purpose Compass" (ZL01266653.x), attracted some manufacturers to visit her for cooperation or purchase offers, but Chen Lu refused to sell them. She believes that if she can have inventions today, she will have more tomorrow. Her purpose of inventing is not just for money but more importantly for joy and dedication. She plans to donate her current and future inventions to charitable organizations for free to help people in impoverished areas.
A sensational report in Minbei: On March 12, 2004, Mr. Huang Xuhui, a reporter for the "Minbei Daily," dedicated an entire page to the story titled "Dream-Chasing Girl—Seven Overseas Universities Invite Her." That day's "Minbei Daily" became a hot commodity among Minbei residents, with the newspapers in kiosks being snapped up by readers. Students' parents who couldn’t buy the newspapers used copies for their children to read, hoping their own kids could become the second or third Chen Lu. Afterward, the phone at Chen Lu’s home rang nonstop as familiar and unfamiliar parents wanted to know how Chen Lu learned English, how she built deep friendships with foreigners, and how she earned 65 certificates and awards. Meanwhile, reporters from the Fujian Strait Education News, Fujian Nanping Television Station quickly conducted exclusive interviews with Chen Lu. Programs such as "China News Network," "News Weekly," "China Women's Network," and Fujian People's Broadcasting Station's "Click Fujian" also separately reported Chen Lu’s story. Many children and parents across Fujian were talking about Chen Lu, and letters from all over the province flew to Chen Lu’s school like snowflakes.
What attracts the interest of multiple overseas universities: Chen Lu was born into a ordinary teacher family in Nanping City, Fujian Province. Her father, Chen Hui, is a senior lecturer at a vocational college, and her mother, Wen Jianmin, is an ordinary cadre at the Nanping City Industrial and Commercial Bank. Chen Lu has had a dream since childhood: to study at a famous university abroad one day. To achieve this dream, she has been working tirelessly. In September 2003, while she was in her second year of high school, Chen Lu, through more than three years of self-study, took the IELTS exam in Fuzhou and achieved an excellent score of 6.5.
