Features: If novels usually speak for others or to others, the "I" in novels often hides in the "story." If the narrator of a novel is the "narrative voice" of life, then essays and prose are more like "soliloquy." After publishing numerous successful novels, Zhang Kankang has now launched her new collection of essays. In these essays and prose, she is visible, speaking only to herself—she records everything she sees, hears, thinks, and loves with sincere and straightforward words! Readers can see her joy, confusion, tranquility, and worries in these essays and prose.
I remember visiting my grandmother's house during winter and summer vacations as a child. Along the riverbanks of the Xiaogang area in Luoshen Town, I once saw a unique architectural style typical of Jiangnan: the covered corridor (). The corridor, with its tiled eaves and wooden pillars, extended outward from the roofs of the houses along the shore, with each connected to the next, stretching for several miles. Under the corridor, one could shelter from wind and rain, while the stone-paved path inside allowed for passage. Sometimes, stone steps led down to the river, serving as boat docks.
Today, the corridors have long decayed and been dismantled, vanishing into the mist of the clear and turbid streams. However, the generations of villagers and exiled locals who have been admired, praised, and remembered are like the pillars in my memory, standing forever in the warm and cold winds along the green riverbanks.
