Features: In today's emphasis on the communicative nature of language learning, English teaching in secondary schools often struggles with grammar, making it a tedious and undesirable task. As teachers with years of experience in English teaching and research at the secondary level, we do not agree with the notion of "" (weakening) grammar. Evidence shows that in many cases, our students do not grasp grammar well. We (agree with) the positioning of "Com-mutilation (Language Communication): Knowledge (Language Knowledge) + Situation (Pragmatic Context)," and we support letting learners observe real language, grasp its rules, develop grammatical awareness, and improve their ability to use grammar and vocabulary in different contexts through practical and effective training. For this purpose, we have compiled this series of books. The content and features of this book are as follows:
Grammar Topics: The book contains 18 units (UNITS), each covering one grammar topic, which comprehensively includes the "Grammar Topics List" from the "Senior High School English Teaching Syllabus" (also part of the college entrance examination syllabus), while fully referencing relevant content from the "Senior High School English Curriculum Standards" and current textbooks for corresponding grade levels.
Grammar Points: Each unit lists several grammar points (POINTS), either in simple descriptions or as typical structures. The selection and establishment of these points are based on the following two considerations: First, the fundamental structures or key points that need to be mastered; second, common difficulties or easily confused areas in learning, i.e., the (difficult points). This book reflects the requirements of English teaching and exams while also being a valuable distillation of the compilers' years of teaching experience.
Example Sentences and Explanations: After each grammar point (POINT), typical example sentences (EXAMPLES) and brief explanations (EXPLANATl0NS) are provided in a tabular format for easy comparison and clarity. This is a grammar book with examples (ExempufledGrammar): It aims for learners to grasp the three-dimensional nature of grammar—“Structure Form (Language Form) + Language Meaning (Language Meaning) + Language Use (Language Use)—through observing a certain number of typical example sentences. This helps them master grammar in real language use and lay a solid foundation for using English grammar correctly and appropriately. Combined with typical example sentences, brief explanations (EXPLANAT0NS) analyze the form structure, as well as the corresponding meaning or potential differences, pointing out the relevant language use or function.
TIPS: When necessary, "TIPS" are provided in the form of notes related to a specific grammar structure, especially the vocabulary applicable to it. We believe that grammar is not just isolated and rigid rules but should and needs to be mastered through specific vocabulary. This is also a vocabulary-based grammar book. Combined with the relevant grammar points, it provides vocabulary that learners may encounter, offering reliable resources to help them in future language use.
Practice: At the end of each unit, there is a section on PRACTICE, providing various forms of exercises based on the content of the unit. Whenever possible, paragraph-style exercises are used to provide readers with contexts that are realistic, diverse, and (: close to real-life), allowing them to learn (or review) the use of grammar in practice. We hope this book becomes a good example of "learning grammar through use," paying particular attention to idiomatic expressions that deviate from common rules, i.e., the requirements for using grammar in real language.
