1.(1) "Small cars" have lower safety configurations. Comprehensive safety features are not exclusive to high-end sedans. The concepts of safety, comfort, environmental friendliness, and economy have become indispensable indicators for evaluating the quality of family sedans. Safety features such as dual airbags, ABS anti-lock braking systems, and full-body crash energy absorption designs have become standard configurations for many compact family sedans. The safety features of a car cannot be seen directly or demonstrated, so it requires car brokers to explain them. Additionally, standard 5-seat safety belts and wide tires are also easily overlooked vehicle safety measures. Especially for tires, high-end wide flatties provide high-tensile grip, enhancing vehicle handling performance and stability, serving as an important guarantee of safety. In economy-class family sedans, most cars use tires with a width of 175mm, or even narrower. If a model uses 185mm wide tires, it can be highlighted as a selling point for its safety performance.
(2) Low fuel consumption is good. A car's fuel consumption level is influenced by multiple factors. When selecting an economy car, some buyers often use the manufacturer's labeled fuel consumption figures to simply determine if it is fuel-efficient, yet they overlook the performance sacrifices that come with pursuing solely low fuel consumption. The reasons for high fuel consumption are multifaceted: ① All safety and comfort features increase the overall vehicle weight. The higher the configuration and functionality, the heavier the vehicle, and correspondingly, the higher the fuel consumption. ② The comfort of the vehicle also indirectly affects the setting of its aerodynamic coefficient. A lower aerodynamic coefficient significantly reduces energy consumption during high-speed driving, while the design of vehicle functions and interior space also impacts the aerodynamic coefficient. ③ Wider tires result in greater rolling resistance, which increases fuel consumption at low speeds. All these internal factors affecting fuel economy are the result of manufacturers comprehensively matching a vehicle's market demand characteristics. A good car always strives to find the optimal balance between overall performance and economy. The key to understanding vehicle economic efficiency lies in consumers comprehensively evaluating all performance indicators of the vehicle, based on their own usage needs, and making judgments and choices among the vehicle's power performance, safety, comfort, and fuel economy, rather than simply focusing on the simple number of fuel consumption.
(3) The sturdier the body, the safer the car. Body structure and steel plate specifications are the first line of defense for vehicle safety. A well-designed body not only offers excellent crashworthiness but also effectively absorbs impact forces. Vehicle safety analysis and testing show that cars with very sturdy bodies experience significant impact energy and deceleration during collisions, making passengers more vulnerable to injuries. Therefore, body structure design and material selection must consider how to reduce human deceleration during collisions and minimize impact energy. For example, the engine hood: if made of thicker and stronger steel plates, it would move backward during a front collision, like a shovel, striking the passengers inside. Hence, thinner steel plates are generally used, with grooves on the reinforcing ribs to create wrinkles and deformation during a front collision, absorbing impact energy and protecting passengers. Statistics show that side collisions account for about one-third of all vehicle accidents. Since the side of a vehicle lacks a crush zone to absorb impact energy, the side impact protection system must distribute the impact force to protect the integrity of the body. For instance, the Saori car is equipped with two strong side-impact steel beams inside its four doors, effectively preventing side collisions from harming passengers. Additionally, the safety energy-absorbing steering column can automatically shorten, reducing external impact forces and preventing chest injuries to the driver. It is worth noting that when selecting a family vehicle, considerations for family safety and ride comfort are essential purchasing factors. P189-P190
