Crocodile Mom had five little babies. They played in the river and the muddy all day, getting very dirty. The little crocodiles also liked to hide and sneak around, not wanting their mom to give them a bath. One day, Crocodile Mom finally caught Crocodile Number Three and Number Four. She bent down and used a towel to scrub them hard. The little crocodiles' skin was hard and bumpy, covered in mud on their backs and bellies. Crocodile Mom scrubbed until she was exhausted. She had to be careful all the time, making sure the little ones didn’t slip away from her.
As she scrubbed, Crocodile Mom sighed, “I really don’t know how to deal with these little dirty rascals!” Just then, Crocodile Mom’s good friend, the chubby Bear Lady, came back from the market after buying groceries. She heard Crocodile Mom sighing and said, “Using a towel to bathe the little crocodiles is too much trouble. Their skin is so bumpy—it’s hard to clean. Besides, you need to make them understand that bathing is fun, so they won’t slip away from you.”
“You’re right!” Crocodile Mom said. She thought, “What tool should I use to bathe my children so they’ll enjoy it?” At that moment, Crocodile Mom looked up and saw that Bear Lady was carrying a long-handled floor brush she had just bought on her shoulder. Crocodile Mom quickly wiped her hands dry, took money out of her pocket, and pressed it into Bear Lady’s hand. “Please take this money, and give me your floor brush. I really need it right now, and I’ll make sure the little crocodiles will love bathing.”
Hearing this, Bear Lady happily gave her long-handled floor brush to Crocodile Mom.
Crocodile Mom used the floor brush to bathe the little crocodiles. She dipped the brush in water and gently scrubbed their backs and bellies: Back scrub, belly scrub, my little mud ball—turning into a pretty crocodile doll.
As she scrubbed, Crocodile Mom sang, and the little crocodiles found it both comfortable and fun. One by one, they came in line, waiting for their mom to give them a bath.
The little crocodiles grew up quickly and had their own children. Crocodile Mom became Crocodile Grandma. Crocodile Grandma’s little grandchildren also loved to ask her for help with their baths.
Crocodile Grandma spent her days swinging the floor brush and happily singing: Back scrub, belly scrub, my little mud ball—turning into a pretty crocodile doll.
Those little crocodiles laughed joyfully under Crocodile Grandma’s brush. They joined her in singing: Cool water, itchy brush, we all love—Crocodile Grandma’s happy bathhouse.
