Coca-Cola is well-known to everyone. Coca-Cola is a refreshing beverage, originally from the United States, and now it is sold worldwide with astonishing annual production and sales figures. But if someone tells you: "Coca-Cola was originally nothing more than a potion that could treat headaches and quickly restore fatigue. It was only due to an accidental mistake that it changed its fate and gradually moved out of the corner of the United States, becoming a leader in the global beverage market." Do you believe this? There are several different versions of the story of Coca-Cola, but they are largely the same. Let me introduce you to its wonderful origin. On May 8, 1886, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, a pharmacist named John Pemberton was busy in his backyard. In recent years, Pemberton had invented several medicines. Now, he wanted to invent a potion that could treat headaches and quickly restore fatigue. He set to work immediately. Pemberton boiled a large pot of his own mixed concoction (similar to how we stew traditional Chinese herbal medicine) and stirred it constantly with a shovel. After a while, the potion was ready. Pemberton also owned a pharmacy named Jacob's, so he sent the freshly prepared potion to his own pharmacy and instructed his assistant, Vinney, to dilute it with water and chill it. After tasting it, they both agreed that the potion had a good taste and was very refreshing. Just as they were immersed in the joy of success, Vinney began mixing another cup of potion. Perhaps it was fate, but by mistake, instead of diluting the potion with plain water, he accidentally picked up a bottle of soda and poured it into the potion. An error in the midst of busyness led to an unexpected result—the taste of this cup was even more delightful. Faced with this surprise, they were both very excited. At this moment, Pemberton thought to himself: "Why not make the best of this mistake and turn this potion into a refreshing beverage for sale?" Since it contained coca leaves and kola nuts, they named this beverage Coca-Cola. Of course, like all new things, Coca-Cola did not have a smooth start. It was not immediately accepted by consumers and sold only an average of nine cups a day. As the advertising campaign gained momentum, people gradually grew to love drinking Coca-Cola, and its production and sales increased accordingly. P41-44
