Does itch?

Patient's question:

Some red rashes have appeared on the baby's body, and the baby has been scratching constantly, feeling itchy. Does roseola cause itching?

Doctor's answer:

Most cases of roseola in young children will present with itchy symptoms. Children who do not feel itchy can leave it alone, as the symptoms will naturally subside within one to two days without leaving any pigmentation spots or scaling. Children who do feel itchy can apply hydrogen peroxide ointment or calamine lotion externally. Just wait for the rash to clear up, and there is no need to worry excessively. Roseola in children is caused by a viral infection. The characteristic of roseola is a high fever (usually quite high) that subsides three or four days later, followed by the appearance of a rash or the rash appearing as the fever breaks. This rash is generally not itchy, but a small number of children may experience itching.
