What are the manifestations of children with intellectual disabilities

Patient's question:

I feel like my child is a bit slow, not like other children, and I suspect they might be mentally retarded. What would be the symptoms if the child were mentally retarded?

Doctor's answer:

If a child has this condition, it is actually quite easy to notice. Many children with intellectual disabilities cannot stay still for a moment and are constantly active. This is particularly evident in children aged 4–5. This hyperactivity is different from the liveliness and mischievousness of normal children. It lacks purpose and is merely an uncontrollable excitement. They touch everything they encounter, knock over chairs and stools, and have no idea to pick them up. Children with intellectual disabilities also have poor attention spans. Their ability to concentrate is significantly shorter than that of normal children. Even by the age of 5–6, their attention span does not exceed 5–6 minutes. They also pay little attention to the outside world.
