Features: In the year 380 AD, during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the five major Hu ethnic groups—Xiongnu, Xianbei, Qiang, Di, and Jie—rose up in rebellion against the Jin Dynasty. Forced to retreat south, the Jin court established a (north-south confrontation) situation. On the battlefield, the land was littered with bones, and for a thousand miles, there was no sound of cooking. Meanwhile, the capital of the Jin Dynasty, Jiankang, nestled in the Jiangnan region, remained a land of songs and dances, filled with elegance and romance. Since the fall of the Western Jin Dynasty, the northern regions had suffered relentless warfare, leading to the mass migration of millions of Han Chinese southward. As a result, the Jiankang area of the Eastern Jin became a refuge (). The Qinhuai River and its surroundings flourished, with the city both inside and outside bustling with northerners who had moved south, transforming Jiankang into a city that blended northern and southern styles, vibrant and lively.
Suddenly, a group of riders swept through the woods outside Jiankang like a whirlwind. At the forefront was a young man dressed in warrior attire, his back adorned with a sword, his figure tall and slender, galloping on horseback. His face, handsome beyond compare, was as cold as cast iron, his tightly pressed lips revealing determination and resolve. Just then, a clap of thunder echoed across the clear sky, and from far to near came a girl’s terrified scream: “Help me! You must catch me!” Wearing jeans and carrying a backpack, Ye Xin tumbled from the heavens!
The ancient young man felt a blurry shadow crash down upon him, and with agile skill, he leaped forward, catching the noisy object—resembling an octogenarian—that was like Ye Xin. After a terrifying journey through time, Ye Xin had fallen into the embrace of a stranger. Clutching the young man’s sleeve tightly, she opened her eyes, her heart still pounding wildly.
“Who are you?” The young man looked at the girl in strange attire, his beautiful brows furrowed, asking in a strange accent that Ye Xin found odd.
Ye Xin hesitated. She couldn’t possibly say, “I’m Ye Xin, a high school student from the 21st century. We’re both Chinese, right?” She believed her Jiangnan accent should be quite good. With her nimble eyes shifting, Ye Xin smiled innocently.
“I’m a runaway.”
The young man gave a cold smile, then released his grip, sending Ye Xin’s rear crashing hard onto the ground. Normally, the athletic Ye Xin wouldn’t have been so clumsy, but after an extremely long journey, she was as stiff as a log.
“The north-south situation is tense. If you don’t tell the truth, you’re a spy.” The young man’s words left Ye Xin stunned. North-south situation? Spy? She desperately wanted to faint to solve this problem, but why was it that she, who had always been healthy, never fainted?
“Sir, do you think my outstanding and strange clothing and appearance are suitable for being a spy?” Ye Xin flashed the signature smile she had honed working in the corporate world of the 21st century. “Or how about you take me to dinner? I can slowly tell you my story.” Completely unfazed by the young man’s stern aura, she led his horse and pleaded, looking up at him.
Under the azure ancient sky, in the bright afternoon sun, the handsome young man gazed down at the girl in peculiar attire, her eyes deep and mysterious. A gentle, upward curve lifted the corner of his lips.
