Features: The 2004 edition of the "College English Test Band 8 Syllabus" was officially released in early 2004 with the aim of assessing the implementation and compliance of the 2000 edition of the "Higher Academic English Professional English Teaching Syllabus." The most significant difference between the 2004 edition and the 1997 edition is that the former includes an additional "Humanities Knowledge" section. The syllabus sets three requirements for testing: the ability to have a basic understanding of the geography, history, current status, and cultural traditions of major English-speaking countries; preliminary knowledge of English literature; and preliminary mastery of basic English linguistic knowledge. The testing scope covers social and cultural knowledge of major English-speaking countries, English literary knowledge, and English linguistic knowledge. To facilitate students' learning and revision, the author has compiled nearly 900 entries on the social and cultural knowledge, English literature, and English linguistic basics of major English-speaking countries in the form of a reference manual or a small encyclopedia. The target readers of this book are primarily college English majors, English teachers, as well as English learners of all levels who need to understand the social and cultural aspects of major English-speaking countries, such as high school and university students. Therefore, the book is written in concise English. Among the approximately 900 entries, some are brief, some are slightly more detailed, and some are presented with charts and tables.
