2 months ago, I had an incision and drainage surgery for a vestibular gland cyst.

Patient's question:

2 months ago, I had a surgical incision and drainage for a Bartholin's gland cyst. After the last dressing change, the wound became swollen and painful. Because of the Bartholin's gland cyst, I had the incision and drainage surgery. After the surgery, the doctor asked me to apply medication to the wound myself every day and not to let it close. For the past two weeks, I was traveling and did not change the dressing. Yesterday, I went to see the doctor, who used a cotton swab to find that the wound had already closed. Since coming home, I have noticed some swelling and pain in the wound. Before seeing the doctor, the wound had no such discomfort or pain.

Doctor's answer:

This condition is a Bartholinitis abscess. Drainage and incision treatment are required. Due to delayed dressing changes, the drainage opening closed prematurely, and the inflammation was not completely eliminated.
Medical advice: The current condition still has inflammation, but there are two possibilities. First, if your body's resistance is strong, the inflammation may be controlled and subside on its own. Second, the inflammation may gradually worsen, leading to the formation of another abscess. Therefore, you can temporarily wait and see. Use a disinfectant solution mixed with warm water for daily sitz baths to reduce inflammation and see if you can recover. If another abscess forms, a second drainage and incision may be necessary.
