Patient's question:
Hello doctor, I would like to ask what should be the normal level of sperm motility? My wife and I have not had a child for two years, and we have been trying to conceive but haven't succeeded. The hospital said my sperm motility is low and that treatment is needed. I want to ask if low sperm motility affects fertility, and what is the normal level of sperm motility?Doctor's answer:
Hello, sperm is the most fundamental aspect of male fertility because only when sperm and egg combine can life be nurtured. If a man's sperm vitality is insufficient, sperm cannot combine with the egg, making it impossible to bring life and have children. Sperm vitality is detected based on three parameters: quality, quantity, and time. The normal survival rate should be above 70%. Normal fertility with active sperm should be above 70%. If the active sperm rate is below 50%, it is considered abnormal. If sperm has no activity at all, it is classified as dead sperm syndrome.
