Features: Selected and Commented Poems of Wang Wei and Meng Haoran is based on Chen Tiemin's Collected Works of Wang Wei with Annotations and Li Jingbai's Collected Poems of Meng Haoran with Annotations, selecting 168 poems of Wang Wei and 117 poems of Meng Haoran. The selection focuses on renowned masterpieces while striving to include works of various themes, genres, and styles to provide readers with a comprehensive understanding of the poets' lives and poetic creations. In the original texts, there are a few instances of text and punctuation that have been differently treated in Selected and Commented Poems of Wang Wei and Meng Haoran. The selected poems are generally arranged in chronological order of composition, with works whose dates cannot be determined placed at the end. Wang Wei's poems are primarily arranged according to the Collected Works of Wang Wei with Annotations (which is chronologically organized), with minor adjustments to a few works based on my own perspectives on their dates of composition. Meng Haoran's poems are arranged by poetic form in the original texts, so they have been rearranged in reference to modern studies of Meng Haoran's life. The annotations are concise and accessible, as required by the publisher. The commentaries reflect the author's personal insights and appreciation for the poems, revealing their emotional and thematic depths while emphasizing artistic characteristics in terms of composition, structure, language, rhythm, imagery, artistic conception, and style. Depending on the nature of the works, the commentaries may be detailed or brief, focusing on one or two aspects or offering a holistic overview, avoiding overly literal explanations that miss the essence. Where artistic comparisons are meaningful, they are presented with illuminating critiques. The commentary texts are also crafted to be concise, vivid, and engaging.
