Features: Most of the essays in this collection are papers published by the author in domestic journals in recent years. The content can be divided into three parts.
Part 1, Music Education Curriculum and Pedagogy Research. The papers compare the background of Chinese music education with the development of international music education today, especially the background of American music education, and attempt to consider the curriculum and pedagogy research of 21st-century Chinese music education from the perspectives of world multiculturalism (regarding music education as a component of culture) and multidisciplinarity.
Part 2, Music Education and Cultural Studies. The 20th and 21st centuries are an era of global cultural transformation. How to stand on one's own musical cultural traditions while facing foreign musical cultures, the integration of musical cultures, cross-cultural interactions, and the complex relationships between music education and sociocultural change are issues that Chinese music education needs to explore in depth.
Part 3, International Music Education Research. The author conducted a short academic visit to the University of Wisconsin in the United States in October 2000. Some interviews with American university music professors recorded during this visit reveal new developments in American music education curriculum and disciplines. Several short translations also involve Indian music education and information on music education research from sociological and musicological perspectives.
