These compositions span over two and a half centuries, representing the development and progress of flute art. It is highly beneficial for a professional flute player to accurately grasp the style of these works. Of course, due to limited space, this collection cannot include more pieces, and more will be published in future volumes. I have been playing the flute for nearly four decades, and I am delighted to see the significant progress and development of flute art in China. I believe Chinese musicians possess a special talent for playing the flute, with excellent musicality and a beautiful, melodious tone. Perhaps this is influenced by our fine national instrument—the bamboo flute! With China's ongoing "Four Modernizations" and frequent international cultural exchanges, I am confident that Chinese flute performance art will quickly catch up with the world's advanced level. For this very purpose, I have compiled this collection with my modest efforts, dedicating it to my fellow musicians. Li Xuequan October 1984
