How is it best to treat male asthenozoospermia?

Patient's question:

Doctor, hello! I would like to consult about the best treatment for male asthenozoospermia. Is it caused by smoking and drinking? If I quit, will it improve? Also, if I can't quit, can I improve it by eating aphrodisiac foods? I hope to get a professional answer. Thank you!

Doctor's answer:

Hello, low sperm motility, also known as asthenozoospermia, is one of the most common clinical causes of male infertility. If the motile sperm rate is below 50%, it is considered abnormal, meaning the percentage of progressively motile sperm (grades a and b) in the semen parameters is less than 50% or the percentage of grade a motile sperm is less than 25%. If the sperm have no motility at all, it is referred to as azoospermia. Low sperm motility is also known as asthenozoospermia. Patients with low sperm motility should ideally undergo routine seminal fluid analysis and a medical history to identify the cause of the low motility, such as varicocele or reproductive tract infections, to clarify the true underlying cause. Then, targeted treatment can be administered based on the identified cause. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
