Sudden pain in the testicles - what's going on?

Patient's question:

Sudden pain in the testicles, what's going on? Recently, I've noticed that during class, the left testicle has intermittent pain, which can be relieved by standing for a while. At other times, there's no discomfort. Since I'm in senior year, I spend a lot of time sitting, so is it related to this? What could be the cause of this?

Doctor's answer:

Orchitis is a common cause of testicular pain. There are many causes of orchitis, such as patients with mumps, who may develop orchitis, resulting in testicular pain and swelling; gonorrhea is currently the most prevalent sexually transmitted disease, and in severe cases, it can cause orchitis, leading to testicular pain and swelling; chronic prostatitis can also cause testicular pain, characterized by unilateral pain, often dull or pulling pain, and persistent in nature. Microscopic examination of prostatic fluid reveals a large number of white blood cells. The patients are mostly young and middle-aged adults, with the elderly being less commonly affected.
