Pregnancy amniotic fluid test

Patient's question:

My last menstrual period ended on September 16th.
1. I would like to know if an amniotic fluid test is necessary to determine the health of the fetus after pregnancy. Is the amniotic fluid test painful? Which hospital is best for this test? When is the best time to have the test? Do I need to rest after the test?
2. Besides the amniotic fluid test, are there any better methods to determine the health of the fetus? Additional question: Since I took emergency contraception, cold medicine, anti-inflammatory drugs, and hemorrhoid medication (all in small doses) without knowing I was pregnant (within 4 weeks), I am worried about the effects on the fetus.

Doctor's answer:

If your age does not meet the criteria for advanced maternal age (35 years and above), amniocentesis is not necessarily a required test. Generally, it is only recommended by doctors if there are issues with certain tests (such as high risk in Down syndrome screening, or the discovery of fetal health problems through 4D ultrasound), and further confirmation is needed.
Amniocentesis is typically offered at large hospitals or specialized hospitals (provincial or above), and it is more reassuring to have the procedure done at such institutions. This is because amniocentesis carries a certain (lower) risk of miscarriage, and large hospitals and specialized hospitals have better technology and expertise. Amniocentesis is not painful—it feels like a mosquito bite. During the procedure, you may experience a slight sensation of fullness (pregnant women should stay calm, as this will make the process smoother).
Before undergoing amniocentesis (also known as "amniocentesis"), some pre-procedure tests will be required, including blood tests. The procedure can only be performed if the pre-procedure tests are normal. After the procedure, you will need to stay in the hospital for observation for one to two hours. The hospital may also provide medication to stabilize the fetal condition. It is best to rest at home for two to three days after the procedure and avoid standing for long periods. If no abnormalities are found within the first week after the procedure, the possibility of miscarriage can be ruled out (though it is generally very unlikely).
After amniocentesis, the hospital will perform cell culture, and results are typically available two to three weeks later. There is also a possibility that cell culture may fail, in which case the hospital will usually offer to repeat the procedure at no additional cost, though the pre-procedure test fee will still need to be paid (around 200 yuan). The hospital will generally inform you of these possibilities beforehand and ask you to sign an agreement.
