Is there any downside to frequently using condoms for sex?

Patient's question:

Every week, I have one or two instances of sexual intercourse.
Sometimes, my vaginal opening feels itchy or sore, but it returns to normal after a while. Is this because of using condoms?
Additionally, are there any other highly effective methods for contraception?

Doctor's answer:

Under normal circumstances, vaginal secretions can expel many pathogenic bacteria, but there is a type of oil-based lubricant on condoms that is difficult to remove, making it hard to eliminate some harmful bacteria. This may be one reason why gynecological inflammation is increasing among women who use condoms. As a gynecologist, we generally do not recommend using condoms for contraception in normal marital life.
