Is candidal vulvovaginitis required to be treated for 3 courses continuously, once a month?

Patient's question:

Is candidal vulvovaginitis required to be treated for three courses consecutively, with one course per month? First follow-up question: I still don't quite understand!
Can it be cured in one go? Is continuous treatment for three months necessary? Do I need to take medication for consolidation when asymptomatic?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: If diagnosed with candidiasis, a 2%--4% baking soda solution can be used daily to rinse the external genitalia and vagina or for sitz baths, with a 10-day course to alter the pH and create conditions unfavorable for the survival of Candida. Then, Nystatin should be used, such as powder, tablets, suppositories, or ointments, inserted into the vagina or applied locally, with a dosage of 10--20 million units each time, once nightly, for a 10--14-day course. The external genitalia can also be treated with 3% miconazole ointment for better results. Since this condition is stubborn and prone to recurrence, local treatment is generally preferred. Alternatively, Nystatin tablets can be taken orally, with a dosage of 50--100 million units, three times daily, for a 7--10-day course, followed by a follow-up to confirm three negative results before considering it cured.
