Publish Date: 2005-08-01
Features: The author's objective in writing this book is as follows: (1) To integrate previous research findings and the author's own insights, presenting the content in a narrative style without involving textual, referencing, or adopting existing written accounts by predecessors, and striving to minimize the inclusion of primary document records; (2) To select a limited number of topics as the focus, providing thorough and in-depth narratives for each chosen subject, while only briefly mentioning other events as background context; (3) To give equal attention to social changes, intellectual contributions, and the personalities of several major figures. In summary, this book achieves two accomplishments: First, it is accessible to all readers; second, after reading it, readers can gain an objective and clear understanding of Chinese history. Narrating the history of a vast nation with thousands of years of history is already a remarkable feat, and achieving the second point requires the caliber of a true scholar. Thus, although the book only covers the Eastern Han Dynasty, it by no means diminishes its status as a masterpiece of historical scholarship. No wonder scholars like Liang Qichao, He Lin, and Wu Han, among others, unanimously praise him as an exceptional and rare genius in the field of history.
