Features: In the mid-19th century, Russia was a backward agricultural country dominated by a serf economy ruled by noble landlords. The Crimean War, which lasted three years from 1853 and saw Russia defeated by the joint forces of Britain, France, and Turkey, forced the signing of the Treaty of Paris. The failure of the Crimean War greatly stimulated Russian national sentiment and exposed the vitality and weakness of serfdom, making the people see through the corruption of the Russian political scene. The war's defeat awakened Russia from its slumber, as peasant uprisings surged, people began to think deeply, and bourgeois liberal movements became increasingly active. The changing situation compelled Tsar Alexander II to pursue political reform, and in early 1861, he signed the decree abolishing serfdom.
The artistic origins of the Russian Wanderers' School also came from the West. When you have the opportunity to visit the Tretyakov Gallery and the Russian Museum, you will be stunned by the artworks there, whose artistic taste and value are no less than those of the Louvre and the Orsay Museum in France. The series of works by several Russian Wanderers' School painters published here were organized and shot on-site in Russia by the editors of Tianjin People's Fine Arts Publishing House several times. The publication in large format is intended to make it more convenient for readers to observe and study. It can be believed that the publication of the Russian Wanderers' School series of art books will play a positive role in promoting the development and improvement of oil painting in our country.
