Features: China has a long-standing tradition of prose, with renowned masters and outstanding works from the pre-Qin to the Ming and Qing dynasties. There are countless anthologies of prose. Among the numerous prose anthologies, Guwen Guanzhi stands out as one of the most influential. The development of ancient Chinese prose followed a path from unity to differentiation. Initially, prose was an integrated whole of history, literature, and philosophy, with no strictly defined literary prose. It was only from the late Warring States period that literary prose began to break free from its primitive state, separating from the unified motherbody to become relatively pure literary works. As time passed, the literary consciousness of the creative subjects improved, and the literary nature of prose gradually strengthened, making it more valuable for aesthetic appreciation. Reading Guwen Guanzhi, one can see the evolutionary trajectory of ancient prose mentioned above. To help young readers understand and read Guwen Guanzhi, this book compares it with current versions not only by integrating the original text, annotations, and colloquial translations but also by adding a "Critique" section, which analyzes the background, ideological content, and writing characteristics of each article, allowing readers to better grasp the spiritual essence and artistic charm of the original text. At the end of the book, there is an appendix titled "Quotations from Famous Lines," which helps readers understand the origins of these famous lines, making it easier to reference them in writing.
