How is severe cervical erosion treated?

Patient's question:

Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: I have just been diagnosed with third-degree cervical erosion, and I am currently awaiting the results of a cervical smear test. I have some pain when the right lower abdomen is pressed, but the ultrasound examination is normal. I would like to ask, if it is just cervical erosion, how should it be treated? If the cervical smear test results are abnormal, how should it be treated?
Other: Please explain in detail, don't just give theories, thank you! First follow-up question: Is physical therapy painful?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: According to your condition, physical methods of treatment should be performed, and a biopsy should be conducted. If no abnormalities are found, the following methods of treatment can be followed. There are mainly the following types:
  (1) Medication Treatment: For small erosion areas and superficial inflammatory infiltration, the following medication treatments can be used:
① 10–20% silver nitrate: Apply locally once a week, with 2–4 applications constituting one course.
② Potassium permanganate: Apply locally after menstruation, and repeat the medication once after 1–2 months. When using the above medications, handle with care to prevent burns to the surrounding vaginal wall. Additionally, ensure sterilization during medication to prevent reinfection.
  (2) Physical Treatment: Used for larger erosion areas and deeper cervical erosion with inflammatory infiltration.
① Electrocautery: Use a specially designed electrocautery device to burn the erosion tissue, causing it to necrose and fall off. It is important to achieve a certain depth for better treatment outcomes.
② Cryotherapy: Use a specially designed rapid freezing device to freeze, necrose, and cause the diseased cervical erosion tissue to fall off. Liquid nitrogen is commonly used as the cryogenic agent, which can lower the temperature of the cryotherapy device's tip to -196 degrees Celsius. Apply it to the surface of the cervix to freeze and necrose the erosion tissue, causing it to fall off and allow new squamous epithelial tissue to regenerate. This can typically cure the condition in one session. Generally, there are no adverse reactions, though some patients may experience mild dizziness or lower abdominal pain.
③ Laser Treatment: Most commonly uses a carbon dioxide laser treatment device. Apply the specially designed laser treatment head to the cervical erosion tissue to carbonize, form scabs, and cause the erosion tissue to fall off, allowing new squamous epithelial tissue to regenerate. This can typically cure the condition in one session. There are no special complications during the procedure.
