Does my wife's cervical erosion affect fertility?

Patient's question:

Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: My wife has cervical erosion, will it affect fertility? What are the effects?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, moderate to severe cervical erosion, especially granular or papillary cervical erosion, should be actively treated. Patients with sexual intercourse bleeding or cervical erosion with contact bleeding during examination should also be treated.
Before treatment, these patients should undergo routine cervical smear tests for cancer prevention. If atypical hyperplastic cells are found, although it does not necessarily indicate cancer, only treatment can actively promote cell transformation in a positive direction to prevent future complications. If necessary, colposcopy or biopsy can be performed to rule out cervical cancer.
Women using intrauterine devices (IUDs) for contraception must wait until moderate to severe cervical erosion is treated before inserting an IUD. Similarly, severe cervical erosion is a contraindication for induced abortion, and the procedure must only be performed after the erosion has improved.
