Features: The author of this book, Li Xintuan (1167–1244), was a renowned historian of the Southern Song Dynasty. The Song History has a biography of him, but it contains many errors. Recent scholars, such as Professor Wang Deyi of National Taiwan University, have written "A Chronological Biography of Li Xiuyan" and "A Study of Li Xintuan's Writings," Professor Lai Kehong of Shanghai University has written "A Chronological Record of Li Xintuan's Life and Works," and Professor Tai Jia of Hangzhou Dalian University has written "An Exploration of the Historical Sources of the 'Essentials of the Two Dynasties' and the 'Comprehensive Annals of the Song Dynasty'," all of which offer new insights into Li Xintuan and his works, which are worth referencing. In addition to this book, Li Xintuan's main historical works include the "Annals of the Song Since Jianyan" and the "Verification of Old News." The "Annals" consists of 200 volumes, recording the history of Emperor Gaozong's reign for 36 years. The sources of its materials are primarily the imperial calendars and the "Comprehensive Annals of the Restoration" of the Gaozong era, with extensive references to original archival documents and a large number of private writings. These materials were carefully examined and verified by Li Xintuan, making them highly credible.
