Features: The Shuowen Jiezi (Explanation of Characters) by Xu Shen of the Han Dynasty (abbreviated as Shuowen), is an important work for studying ancient characters. This book uses the seal script and regular script headers from Dingsheng, and whenever Dingsheng alters the seal script or regular script forms, it corrects them according to Shuowen. For characters that appear in different forms or are changed to different characters in other books while being the same as those in Shuowen, they are treated as variant forms of the same character and variant characters, respectively. This book still takes the seal script collected in Shuowen as the standard. All variant forms of the same character or variant characters are uniformly copied and appended at the end of the book. This book includes a total of 14,474 characters. Except for the two books Shiyi and Gulin, which are not counted, the number of characters included in other famous books is as follows: Shuowen includes 9,400 main characters, 1,267 variant characters, and 403 newly added characters. Shuowen claims to include 9,353 main characters and 1,163 variant characters. Compared to Shuowen, this book has 87 more main characters and 104 more variant characters. Together, they have 191 more characters. If 57 duplicate characters are subtracted, there are still 134 more characters. The 403 newly added characters are the same as those in Shuowen. This book takes the seal script and regular script headers from Shuowen Jiezi as the standard, adds four-corner codes, and appends the seal script below the regular script. For the same seal script, the page numbers of each book are added as notes.
