Ning Ken is a writer who is extremely harsh towards his era and himself. This novel, along with his two previous long works, The Masked City and The Silent Gate, is considered the "Trilogy of Cruelty." It is a book that is both popular and complex: "The Ring" is a huge metaphor, involving women, estates, a fresh and primal realm, SM in a locked room, and a detective's trail of clues. It possesses the unique spirit of coldness, wit, black humor, and irony that only Ning Ken can bring, with content that is bizarre, vivid, and conveys a profound and tangible contemporary experience!
