Features: With the introduction of the New National Curriculum Standards, the philosophy of English teaching is undergoing fundamental changes. The teacher-centered classroom is transforming into a student-centered one; students' learning methods are evolving, shifting from passive receptive learning to autonomous exploratory learning; evaluation requirements are changing, moving from single paper-and-pencil tests to diversified assessment methods; and the concept of exam question-setting is also shifting, moving from knowledge-based to ability-based. The criteria for teachers and students selecting teaching aids are also changing, focusing on both form and content, as well as both practicality and specificity. This series of books was compiled for junior high school students preparing for the college entrance examination under this context, consisting of five volumes: Listening Comprehension, Basic Training, Cloze Tests, Reading Comprehension, and Comprehensive Training. This series has the following features:
1. Based on the New Curriculum Standards: This series is uniformly compiled according to the New Curriculum Standards.
2. Reflects New Concepts: Adhering to the correct testing orientation and emphasizing the assessment of language application skills is the guiding principle of this series.
3. Selects New Materials: The materials are primarily sourced from domestic and international newspapers, magazines, and the internet in the past two years. The materials are fresh and highly readable.
4. Designs New Content: The content design of this series references the scientific guidelines of international language exams while also incorporating successful domestic exam cases. The questions and content exhibit a strong sense of modernity and foresight.
5. Presents New Layout: Based on the People's Education Press middle school English textbooks, this series adopts a scientifically designed and optimized combination to systematically and comprehensively present the knowledge and abilities that middle school students should master. The Listening Comprehension volume includes 25 test questions. The first 15 questions systematically test the functional and notional items that junior high school students should master. The 16th to 25th questions simulate the junior high school entrance exam listening comprehension test. The Basic Training volume provides systematic and concise explanations of vocabulary and grammar for junior high school students, along with exercises designed to address common, easily confused, and difficult points in the exam, helping learners master them effortlessly. The Cloze Tests consist of 30 units, with 5 cloze tests per unit, totaling 150 short passages. They are categorized as follows:
- A and B: "Multiple Choice" type, each with 15 blanks.
- C: "Multiple Choice" type, with 10 blanks.
- D: "Word Bank" type (or filling in the appropriate form of the given words), with slightly more words provided than needed.
- E: "Fill in the Blanks" based on context and the given first letter.
According to the new English curriculum standards and the development trend of junior high school entrance exam question types, the Cloze Tests are divided into three types: multiple choice, word bank, and fill in the blanks with the first letter. The materials are categorized into three parts: stories, science and technology, cultural and educational, and others. There are 16 units in the story category, 6 units each in the science and technology and cultural and educational categories, plus 2 simulation tests. The answers and explanations are provided at the end of the book. The Reading Comprehension volume selects 200 short passages of various genres, including stories, news, charts, science and technology, and applied texts, with multiple-choice questions and open-ended questions designed to assess comprehension levels. The Comprehensive Training volume selects key points per unit and designs difficulty levels according to the Outline, reflecting the comprehensive and flexible nature of language testing.
