Explanation of the "Qu Fu Bian Huo Gao"

Author: Zhang Yelu
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2005-12-01
Features: Mr. Zhang Yelu has compiled a collection of his works on the textual research of Qu Fu over the years, with well-organized chapters totaling 180,000 words. Many of his later works were never publicly published, so his unique insights have remained largely unknown to the world. There are numerous commentaries on the Chu Ci poems throughout history, but due to the passage of time, textual research is challenging, leading to differing opinions among scholars. When it comes to matters of history and geography, people are often blinded by the trees and fail to see the forest, confined to conventional views, making it difficult for academia to reach a consensus. The choice between right and wrong leaves little guidance for future scholars. Recognizing this, Mr. Zhang adopted the perspective of historical materialism to weigh various opinions, dedicating himself to exploring the depths and uncovering hidden truths with a spirit of seeking truth and pragmatism. He extensively cited sources to elucidate his ideas. With dim lamps and aged heads, he toiled tirelessly, his dedication evident to all. To promote the study of poetry and correct errors, Mr. Zhang once submitted his manuscript to a publisher in the autumn of 1995 for review and publication. However, after numerous setbacks, the publisher proposed that he bear the cost of printing 5,000 copies. This demand was nearly unreasonable, reflecting the difficulties faced by scholars in getting their works published recently. This summer, my dear friend Zhao Dehuang brought the original manuscript, requesting that it be included in our series and reviewed. With my limited knowledge, I was reluctant to accept, but the responsibility of reviewing is unavoidable. After reading it once, I was greatly enlightened. By supplementing and refining the works of predecessors, he has provided a bridge for future scholars, a contribution to the field of poetry that cannot be overlooked. I hereby record a few words to express my admiration. To call it a preface would be too bold on my part.
