Features: With the development of China's social economy and the improvement of scientific and technological levels, the oilfields have placed increasingly higher demands on the extraction and utilization of crude oil, and the pursuit of economies of scale has become an inevitable trend. Dr. Xiao Jianhong's new book, "The Theory of Economies of Scale in Crude Oil Extraction from Oilfields and Its Application Research," was born in response to the current needs. For a long time, the theory of economies of scale has remained at the traditional classical theory stage, lacking both empirical research on classical theories and innovation in the theory of economies of scale. This book analyzes the traditional classical theory of economies of scale and, combining with the actual conditions of the Gudao Oil Production Plant of Shengli Oilfield, carries out bold innovations. It studies the models for measuring economies of scale under three different extraction methods—water flooding, polymer flooding, and steam huff-and-puff—and conducts empirical analysis based on these models. On this basis, it also researches the early warning model of economies of scale in crude oil extraction from oilfields, using data from the Gudao Oil Production Plant for verification. Throughout the book, it is characterized by quantitative analysis and practicality. Through theoretical research and experimental analysis, the author has drawn many valuable conclusions, which play a very important guiding role in the economic extraction of crude oil and the improvement of economic benefits in extraction. This book is the crystallization of Dr. Xiao Jianhong's doctoral dissertation and main research achievements. Reading through the entire book, I deeply feel that Dr. Xiao possesses a solid theoretical foundation and rich practical experience. Many of his viewpoints reflect the development trend of the theory of economies of scale and the direction of development in the field of extraction practice. The publication of this new book is bound to have a significant impact on the theory and practice of crude oil extraction.
