Patient's question:
What medication is used to treat leukoplakia of the vulva?Doctor's answer:
Currently, there are many methods for treating leukoplakia of the vulva both domestically and internationally. Common treatments include phototherapy, laser therapy, cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen, fire needles, Jie'eryin, or topical application of traditional Chinese medicine. Conservative treatment often employs a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine. If the affected area has severe itching, decoctions of Chinese herbal medicine can be used to steam-wash the vulva once or twice daily. After washing, dry the area and apply a 2% compound testosterone cream (this medication can be prepared by the patient under the guidance of a doctor) to the affected skin by gently massaging it with fingers. Oral vitamin A (250,000–500,000 units per day) and vitamin B6 (100 mg per day) can also be taken.
The treatment methods for other conditions are similar to those for this type of skin disease. For example, if there is epidermal thickening or existing psoriasiform changes, a 2% hydrocortisone urea cream can be added.
